Cohen Emmert - Head Coach

Coach Cohen J Emmert(They/Them) - This will be Cohen’s second season coaching with NWAS and 10th year as a head coach.  For four years Cohen coached at Roosevelt High School in Portland, OR.  After leaving Roosevelt they led Columbia River’s JV team to back-to-back league titles.

They have also served our community as an At Large Member of CEVA's Board of Directors and Chair of CEVA’s Diversity and Inclusion committee.  Cohen lives in Portland, OR with their significant other Sajani. They continue their passion of volleyball by coaching 7th graders in the McDaniel Cluster, playing in adult leagues for fun at least a couple times a week when they’re not busy with work or coaching.

They currently work at Trillium Family Services in an administrative support position.  Cohen does most of their work from home.  This has created a flexible schedule which allows them to pursue several of their passions including cooking, mushroom foraging, and playing and coaching volleyball.

Sherri Rutherford - Assistant Coach

Coach Sherri has been coaching volleyball since 2016.  Most recently she coached for 5 years at St. Josephs Academy.  Her teams placed first or second in their divisions each of those years.  She enjoys teaching fundamentals and getting to know families.  Sherri still plays volleyball regularly, mostly indoors, but she has recently taken up beach volleyball – playing in her first Seaside tournament this summer.

When not coaching volleyball, Sherri works as a family physician.  She is currently faculty at a residency program, teaching new docs.   She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Nutrition/Chemistry, went to medical school in Iowa and then completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.  Currently she runs a manual medicine clinic, an integrative medicine clinic as well as a traditional family medicine clinic.  Medicine and volleyball both contribute to special interests that she has including injury prevention in female athletes, nutrition for optimum performance and mental training.

Sherri is married to Joel and has 15-year-old twins.  She enjoys playing volleyball, pickleball, baking, camping/backpacking, going to her kid’s activities and organizing things.
